Researchers at the University of Wisconsin-Madison have been able to digitally recreate what the environment sounded like around the naturalist Aldo Leopold‘s house using his detailed notes of the bird calls he would here in his area.

This “resurrected soundscape” is the first sonic setting to be recreated from real data, rather than from informed imagination, according to researchers at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.[/quote]
This is the closest we currently have to being transported back in time and experiencing what someone would have experienced in the 1930s.
